The Jaguar Mark 2 is an interesting car. It was designed under Sir William Lyons’ maxim of “grace, pace, and space”. The design appears to have worked as the Mark 2 is equally at home hauling the over-privileged to fashionable shops or hauling hoons around race tracks.
The Mark 2 was built from 1959 to 1967 and used the XK inline 6 engine. This is the same XK 6 engine family of XK120, Xk150, D-Type and E-Type glory. This car has a 3.8 litre version that made this Jag a stylish muscle car. This car can accelerate to 60 in 8.5 seconds and continue to a top speed of 125 miles per hour. This was remarkable for a luxury sedan in the 1960s.
The Mark 2’s performance capabilities endeared it to folks like Stirling Moss, Jimmy Clark, and the Kray twins. Mr. Moss and Mr. Clark drove the Mark 2 to success in the European Touring Car Championship while the Kray twins drove the Mark 2 successfully away from the police during their days of arganized crime in London’s East End.
