They don’t call Sabine Schmitz, the Queen of the Ring, for no reason. Watch her at a recent VLN race. She says that between races and her ‘RingTaxi duties, she does about 1200 laps of the famous 13 mile track a year.
Watching this video, I’d believe that for sure.
This. This video here shows why Formula D’s scoring makes no sense.
I mean it does as far as I understand that it’s a drifting competition and that’s it an exhibition. Still, I have never understood if there was any consistency ever in Formula D’s scoring system. At all. Ever.
I get it. It’s a popularity contest. Still, I’ve always wished that Formula D cars just had a Driftbox installed, and this would fix a lot of their problems. At least with a Driftbox installed, drivers are just playing to the meter rather than playing to the favorites of the judges.
*Yep, I’m ranting. Deal.*
Damon Hill is one of my favorite Formula 1 drivers of all time. Now, you might ask why would I be interested in posting about a twenty-six year old motor-race?

Alex Zanardi is such a champion, who is much more than just from his racing.
Sure, he’s raced in Formula 1. He’s won the CART series title two years in a row. He’s raced touring cars and won the gold medal in the 2012 Paralympic Games after losing his legs in a horrible crash in 2001. Still, Zanardi is much more than that.
So the maiden Formula E race was this weekend, and I just had a chance to really look at some of the highlights in detail. (First of all, props to Formula E to actually provide some highlights of their races. Why Formula 1 doesn’t do this is absolutely baffling to me still.)
I find the business of motorsport just as exciting as the action that happens on the track. In order to get on-track success, so many things happens behind the scenes.
For the 11th year now, Formula Drift has been the premier drift series in the US and in several other countries as well. When the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach takes southern California by storm, Formula Drift puts their mark (literally) on the track the weekend before the big open wheel race.
Just taking a look at this historic kart demonstration in the UK, you can easily see how much the look of race karts have changed over the last 50 years. Sidepods, bumpers, larger curb weight. Karts now are definitely much safer that they were in the old days.
However, at the same time, some will argue that the safety factor has made it possible for some drivers to reduce their driving standards, because they can touch pods can get away with a little “bump and run”. That wouldn’t even be a conversation starter in these vintage karts. You’d just flip and crash.
Still, it’s interesting to see how the technology has evolved, eh?
Formula E. Home of the all electric formula car racing series, and all the ex-Formula 1 driving talent that you can get your hands on. The first race is coming in September, and so I’ve been doing a bit to find more information about the cars.
I know I did!
IndyCar is really grabbing my attention this year. I think that the Mayor of Hinchtown might be one of my new favorites, just for this one move. (See? Open-wheel excitement without a single DRS Zone in sight…)
